DEDICATION OF PAPER

In Memory

Michele Farmer Hellickson
1948-2002

Micki was born on 12 March 1948 in Grand Forks, ND. She died on 15 October 2002 in Tucson, AZ after a 7-year battle with breast cancer. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her husband and son, Buck and Will Hellickson (Arizona) and her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Carlene Farmer (Clancy, MT). Micki had an illustrious career with the National Park Service and at the time of her death was Superintendent of Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook, AZ. It is only through her dedication to the natural resources that she managed,  that this study on the birds of Petrified forest was possible.  She was also a devoted wife, mother and sister. This remarkable woman will be deeply missed.

"One night after a thunderstorm over the North Rim, while the stars were still hidden, the moon gave a soft light through which the large landscape features could be discerned....But I gazed around dreamily, the soft, soothing voices of the little toads, the chirring of crickets, the faint distant poor-will, poor-will soon lulled me into peaceful sleep."

     Florence Merriam Bailey,
Among the Birds in the Grand Canyon
